Seven children from the Inverness Area spent three days in the first part of the holidays in creating an artwork on the theme of global peace.
Working in Culduthel Hall in Lochardil, the children first had a look at some of the images produced by the global project last year. Inverness based artist, Diane Roberts who introduced the Project, was delighted at the way the children took to the project. "The children, aged 6 - 13 all enjoyed working together and being part of a worldwide project promoting peace and goodwill. Personal and reflective drawings with titles such as 'Keep the Candle Burning' and 'Let Your Spirit Soar' were translated into clay relief panels. Repeated photographic images of this work were then carefully placed onto a collage created from the combined artwork." On the back of the mounted artwork they wrote messages of peace.
"It was only 3 mornings work but we could have kept on making our artwork for a long, long time" said Hannah, aged 8.
The result was a delightful and very effective artwork which the young group was proud to see on display at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery in the community space. It hung there from 13th to 26th April before being sent to America, where it was on display. The Inverness group received the artwork from New Hampshire, which was in turn displayed in Inverness Museum.
